Dressed to impress

Photobucket

Well, slightly anyways... Just a sketch of what I wore today.
Today I (Tsuki in this case) had a meeting at the unemployment office, where they attempted to sell us youngsters into slavery. At least, that's what the gist of their message seemed to be...
Whenever I have an important meeting that makes me feel nervous and/or insufficient, I always try to dress in such a way that I can walk there with a high chin. That's why I always take examinations in extreme clothing and makeup; even if I'm not confident, I can pretend that I am at least.
I've suffered from terribly bad self confidence since I was about 12, and dealing with it can be very hard. Each and every one of us develop tricks to ease this, even if just a little, during our lives; and my hat goes off to you out there who have succeeded.

Clay Wars

Mica just began her studies this week, and their first assignment was to make a clay-animation of the famous "Luke, I am your father"-scene from Star Wars. The result of Mica's group took a few hours of fooling around with Iphones and After Effects, and can be seen below:

Göteborgs Kulturkalas/ Culture Festival 2010

Friday the 13th, Zepheline headed downtown to check out Gothenburg Culture Festival 2010. The main reason for our outing was to see a friend be in a presentation of the fall theatre schedule at the city theatre, but before going there we had some time to kill.

Earlier, we had seen that a local museum was going to have an exhibition called Kimono Fusion

, and they were going to have a tent along the main avenue. We decided to check it out, and ended up staying there until we had to run to the theatre.

When we got there, Mica realised that she knew one of the people working there from the local Hikari-kai. We talked alot and got recruited to work for ConFusion in january, and generally had a blast hanging out with all the people there. The top image in this post was drawn by artist Lisa Harald in about 7 minutes, and colored by Mica. Left to right: Mica, our friend Joel, and Tsuki. Check out her gallery at http://liliothe.deviantart.com!

This young man was the younger brother of Lisa. During our stay at the tent, he had been assigned the task of handing out flyers for Kimono Fusion; something that he apparently took very seriously. He handed out every flyer they had, and after that poceeded to chase us around (especially Mica).

There's a video of this for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq9SY4hzveo

Altogether, it was a truly great day!

Swedens national holiday

cupcakes
Today, as it is the sixth of June, we'd like to celebrate our national holiday with lemon meringue and marshmallow cupcakes. The recipe is a simple variation of the strawberry cupcakes posted two days ago; crush some meringue in the bottom of the cups before pouring in the batter, add lemon juice (or any other fruit) instead of strawberries, and top off with lemon icing and marshmallow fluff!

Strawberry cupcakes!

cupcakes
Today we were going to have friends coming over, so we made these super-sweet cupcakes!

2 eggs
2 decilitres sugar
50 grams butter
1 decilitre milk (or water)
3 decilitres wheat flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla powder
Strawberries! (about 2 decilitres)

mix eggs and sugar until it becomes fluffy. Melt the butter, then add the milk/water and heat the mix up. Pour the hot liquid into the eggmixture. Mix flour, baking powder and vanilla powder, and pour into the liquid mix.
Fill the cupcake-forms about halfway up, and bake in the oven at 210°C for about 18-20 minutes. Let them cool off.

Then make a simple buttercream filling (butter, sugar, confectionary's sugar) and mix in some food colouring. The decorating is now up to you! ^_^

OCC Lip Tars

Oh my... I want these sooo bad!
I've always had trouble with lipsticks because my lips are so dry. Maybe these are what would finally work for me?
On their website at Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (http://www.occmakeup.com), their description is:

"$12.50 USD | 8mL
- A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment - a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that stands up to the scrutiny of Hi-Def Video and Digital Photography, without ever looking (or feeling!) heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you!

Like all of our products, OCC Lip Tar is 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and is also free of parabens and other harsh preservatives. A simple, elegant formula that contains Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E, OCC Lip Tar feels as good on the lips as it looks!"

I would absolutely LOVE to experiment with these! When I have some money over, I'll definitely have to order a few tubes.... after everything else I need ^_^;;

AAA - Heart and Soul

I realise that the new single from AAA has been out for quite some time as I write this, but since we didn't have a blog when it got out, I'll be reviewing the PV now.

The song has a similar style compared to many of their recent hits; electronic beat and Nissy & Misako (mainly) harmonising on the chorus. It's too bad that this song gets lost in the same sound of all their recent singles... In the beginning their songs were more varied in style, and that made them stand out more. The last song that really got stuck in my head was MUSIC! but the others have just been added to the playlist as background noise when I'm working on something else.As always, their clothes are matched in general style and colour, and it all works out really nicely with the choreography. One thing, though, that was a great improvement...

Misakos hair.
I mean... finally they dared to do something out of the ordinary! It looks wonderful!
it's a shame I can't get a better shot of it with the low-quality version I have of the PV...
A pat on the back is needed for the stylist. Good job!

Vacation

I'm currently staying in Valencia with my father, and will return home on the 30th of May.

When I came here in the beginning of april, I wanted to explore the city more thoroughly than I did during my last visit, and I remembered a shop that I wanted to check out. After checking its' name online and finding the adress, I walked with swift steps through old Valencia until I got to the spot, but it wasn't there. I checked online again, it was supposed to be there; I wasn't mistaken.
Sighing, I checked the internet for any similar shop, and I found two. Next day I went to check them out, and they were gone too. What kind of shops, you ask?
Alternative clothing.

In the year since my last visit when I didn't have the time for shopping, all three stores had closed. This is yet another reminder to not put off doing something you like, because sometimes the chance disappears. At least this was a more gentle reminder than the passing of my friend earlier this year...

Until next time!

Welcome to the Zepheline blog!

After a lot of thought, work, and re-work... we have finally decided to launch this blog, which we started envisioning several months ago. For weeks, we have analyzed other blogs, for the sole purpose of knowing what we wanted to do. It came together like this, but expect a lot of change to occur as we again change our minds (and learn more about html!).

The main idea behind Zepheline is creative joy; as we both are very interested in almost any activity involving creation. Expect everything from alternative fashion to DIY-projects and baking!

Let's introduce ourselves:

Age: 21

Interests: music, computer games (mainly RPG's), painting, designing, make-up, anime & manga, horror-movies, languages, fantasy/sci-fi, creative writing... tl;dr I'm a nerd.

Music-style: There's something good in any genre, so I can't simply choose only one or two. I enjoy a lot of jpop and jrock, as well as celtic music, EBM and metal. It all really depends on the mood I'm in.

Fashion-style: Basically same answer as above: I dress like whatever I feel like at that moment. One day it's kawaii, the next it's a darker goth... I think there's a little of everything in my wardrobe.

Age: 22

Interests: Anything relating to visual arts, and good storytelling. Well... I'm really interested in everything: the whole world around me... political, historical, artistic... I think it's easier to tell what I'm NOT interested in: stuff like... horses.

Music-style: I love to listen to good soundtracks, because it works well as background noise when working with something. Otherwise, music is a fleeting passion... favourite bands come and go.

Fashion-style: I have a lot of different personalities... it's easy for me to get lost in myself, when one day I look like I could give you cavities, and the next day like a brawler looking for a fight... Rugged, leather boots versus frilly, pink lace.

We met when we were both studying japanese at Gothenburg University, and now live together in a shared apartment with our boyfriends and a cat.

Together, we plan to cover a lot of areas that interest us both, in a weird yet colorful mosaic of imagery. If there's anything you think we should add, or want to know more about something: just comment and we'll get back to you as fast as we can.

Wish us luck!
