First picnic of 2011

Today, since the weather was lovely, Mica came up with the great idea that we should have a picnic somewhere!
And so, we went and bought a couple of macarons and muffins, and brought some coffee, tea and a blanket to a park near our university. There we met up with Mica's sister and our friend Emelie, and together we sat down in the warm sun. It was only 5 degrees celsius outside, but as long as we were in the sun it still felt great. Unfortunately, a building soon blocked the setting sun... >_<;;
We brought along Miku, who was quite scared (but curious!) about everything, since she's an indoor cat. After exploring the vicinity of our picnic-area, and trying to hunt a blackbird, she decided to climb on all of us.

As soon as Spring decides to hurry up and truly get here, we'll hopefully get to do this more often. ^_^

Enjoy the sunny weather, everyone!

Semlor

This year Fettisdagen was very late, so we couldn't keep ourselves from making semlor earlier... but we decided not to make them as plain as the traditional ones usually are!
It all started as a discussion while we were trying to make decorate some cupcakes; it came to us that the most underrated pastry of all time (we might be a little subjective on that point...) could be reinterpreted a little....

... And so we invited a couple of great friends over to make some!
It certainly was a weird day though; first we made some cupcakes (because one of the friends that was supposed to come is allergic to almonds) and everyone started to drop in... along with two highschool girls that they found along the way. Apparently they had a craving for chocolate, which I hope got satisfied by chocolate cupcakes and some 70-100% cacao chocolate that our friend Anders brought! ^_^

We got to work on the baking and decorating, and together produced these lovely (and tasty!) Semlor:

Afterwards, we all sat down together in the living room to eat, and watched Scott Pilgrim vs the World. In other words: a perfect end to a great day!

Dressed to impress

Photobucket

Well, slightly anyways... Just a sketch of what I wore today.
Today I (Tsuki in this case) had a meeting at the unemployment office, where they attempted to sell us youngsters into slavery. At least, that's what the gist of their message seemed to be...
Whenever I have an important meeting that makes me feel nervous and/or insufficient, I always try to dress in such a way that I can walk there with a high chin. That's why I always take examinations in extreme clothing and makeup; even if I'm not confident, I can pretend that I am at least.
I've suffered from terribly bad self confidence since I was about 12, and dealing with it can be very hard. Each and every one of us develop tricks to ease this, even if just a little, during our lives; and my hat goes off to you out there who have succeeded.

Clay Wars

Mica just began her studies this week, and their first assignment was to make a clay-animation of the famous "Luke, I am your father"-scene from Star Wars. The result of Mica's group took a few hours of fooling around with Iphones and After Effects, and can be seen below:

Göteborgs Kulturkalas/ Culture Festival 2010

Friday the 13th, Zepheline headed downtown to check out Gothenburg Culture Festival 2010. The main reason for our outing was to see a friend be in a presentation of the fall theatre schedule at the city theatre, but before going there we had some time to kill.

Earlier, we had seen that a local museum was going to have an exhibition called Kimono Fusion

, and they were going to have a tent along the main avenue. We decided to check it out, and ended up staying there until we had to run to the theatre.

When we got there, Mica realised that she knew one of the people working there from the local Hikari-kai. We talked alot and got recruited to work for ConFusion in january, and generally had a blast hanging out with all the people there. The top image in this post was drawn by artist Lisa Harald in about 7 minutes, and colored by Mica. Left to right: Mica, our friend Joel, and Tsuki. Check out her gallery at http://liliothe.deviantart.com!

This young man was the younger brother of Lisa. During our stay at the tent, he had been assigned the task of handing out flyers for Kimono Fusion; something that he apparently took very seriously. He handed out every flyer they had, and after that poceeded to chase us around (especially Mica).

There's a video of this for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq9SY4hzveo

Altogether, it was a truly great day!

Swedens national holiday

cupcakes
Today, as it is the sixth of June, we'd like to celebrate our national holiday with lemon meringue and marshmallow cupcakes. The recipe is a simple variation of the strawberry cupcakes posted two days ago; crush some meringue in the bottom of the cups before pouring in the batter, add lemon juice (or any other fruit) instead of strawberries, and top off with lemon icing and marshmallow fluff!

Strawberry cupcakes!

cupcakes
Today we were going to have friends coming over, so we made these super-sweet cupcakes!

2 eggs
2 decilitres sugar
50 grams butter
1 decilitre milk (or water)
3 decilitres wheat flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla powder
Strawberries! (about 2 decilitres)

mix eggs and sugar until it becomes fluffy. Melt the butter, then add the milk/water and heat the mix up. Pour the hot liquid into the eggmixture. Mix flour, baking powder and vanilla powder, and pour into the liquid mix.
Fill the cupcake-forms about halfway up, and bake in the oven at 210°C for about 18-20 minutes. Let them cool off.

Then make a simple buttercream filling (butter, sugar, confectionary's sugar) and mix in some food colouring. The decorating is now up to you! ^_^
